SASKATOON — A Saskatoon Police Service routine investigation of a riverside bonfire June 8 turned violent, with two members of the SPS Bike Unit sustaining minor injuries and two people facing assault and other charges.

A 26-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man are facing a number of charges after members of the SPS Bike Unit witnessed smoke coming from an area along the river in the 600 block of Spadina Crescent at around 7 a.m.

The officers located the two individuals sitting at an open fire and stopped to investigate a possible bylaw violation. While being questioned, the two became combative, began physically assaulting the officers and attempted to disarm them, according to SPS.
